Our Wedding Buffet

Welcoming Kola Nuts
Thank you for sharing our day
We welcome our friends to our wedding buffet

As you pass through to your tables, please help yourself to some of the Kola Nuts here. Take 3 or 4; they are delicious to chew on and considered part of the welcoming ritual in Zanzibar

Also, on your tables you will each find a small gift from us as a thank you for helping us to make this day so special and a day to remember forever

Our wedding is being held in Zanzibar which is also known as the Spice Island. The wedding buffet will include some traditional African dishes from this part of the world. We hope you enjoy the food served at our reception and we have included some recipes for you to recreate the dishes at home

Cloves, cinnamon and coconut play a large part in the cuisine of this tiny island where a visit to the local markets will reveal displays of bananas, plantains, papayas, hot red peppers and green vegetables. Staple foods are rice, hot baked sweet potatoes, toasted corn, baked cassava and fish in lemon sauce

In the past Zanzibar was an important trading locality and the local cuisine shows influences from Portugal, China and India. The local people are very hospitable and will spend hours preparing dishes for visitors

Traditional appetizers include sweet potato soup, garlic prawns, clams, chicken liver pate and

 Seafood

It is thought that the original inhabitants of Zanzibar were African fishermen who lived in villages scattered throughout the island. Their fresh fish diet would have included tuna, kingfish, lobster, octopus, squid and oysters
